Some thoughts on the Dysfunctional Decade known as the '70's, specifically 1973.
It was traumatic enough getting separated from my junior high school buddies
because I literally lived "on the wrong side of the railroad tracks" in
the city of Orange, CA and
HAD to attend Canyon instead of Villa Park High School w/ 98% of my friends.
To make matters worse, "Green Acres" & "Petticoat Junction" had just been cancelled.
But the real kicker is this: The 9th graders, soon to be sophomores at Canyon,
had the opportunity to select the Canyon mascot for the future.
There were some great options: Conquistadors, Cavaliers, Colonels, Cougars.
The COMANCHE was voted for and our school newspaper was titled
"The Smoke Signals". Nuff said. FART-KNOCKERS!
Still, for some reason, we keep going back to our roots in a "Waldo-land" known as
high school, before life really
kicked in, the REAL ups and downs, REAL responsibilities, REAL problems,
REAL success, REAL-ALITIES. 30 years passed? Seems more like 5...
